Cheaper isn't always better.
Engine not properly maintained using non reccomended oil. Engine maintained using the reccomended oil and replacement schedule.
Many people may think that all engine oils are the same, but as in the oil that we use to prepare our food, there are certain differences. We all have heard of the benefits of olive oil, which has been proved to be much better for us than the oil which has a high content of saturated fat. The same happens with the different types of engine oils available in the market.
You are probably asking yourself, why are they talking to me about cooking oil if this is an engine oil article? What do both have in common? It is a reality that we cannot use engine oil to prepare our food, nor the olive oil in our engine, but in their own respective areas, they both have certain characteristics that make some oils better than others.
Many times we have been attracted by an advertisement that offers a very attractive price on engine oil and filter change and we take our vehicle to that place, believing that all the oils available in the market are the same. Why should I pay more at my authorized service center, if there is a place close to my home which is cheaper? The answer can be seen in the pictures shown at the beginning of this article. Not using the factory recommended engine oil, the correct amount, the original oil filter and not replacing the oil at the recommended intervals, can prove to have extreme and adverse consequences.
It is well known by all of us, that if we use oil made from animal grease this could raise our cholesterol level and plaque could adhere inside our arteries, which could eventually prevent blood from flowing through them as it should. This, in turn, will eventually have an adverse health effect in us. The same will happen with your engine if you do not use the correct oil. Cheap oil is usually one of lesser quality and it breaks down faster than good quality oil. When the engine oil breaks down, it creates sediment which starts to adhere to the engine components and through the oil passages; this makes it more difficult for the oil to flow through them. This will eventually have an adverse effect on the life of your vehicle’s engine.
When you bring your vehicle to your authorized service center, you can feel confident that they will use high quality engine oil which meets or exceeds the manufacturer’s recommendations. This will assure you that your engine will not develop sludge which can reduce significantly the chances of having mayor engine breakdowns. An engine which has had all the engine oil and filter replacements performed according to the vehicle manufacturer’s schedule should remain clean and without showing any sludge or sediment buildup, for as long as you own the vehicle. These procedures allow the engine oil to flow freely through its lubrication passages, reaching all the critical components and increasing the engine longevity and performance for many years without any mayor breakdowns.
You have made a significant investment in the purchase of your vehicle and it would be unwise not to invest in the proper maintenance. Your authorized service center will provide you the best products and advice to make sure that your vehicle provides you with many years of enjoyment.
Below are some additional images of what could happen to your engine if you do not perform the proper maintenance and use high quality oil.
