Summertime is just around the corner, and with it, a higher concentration of vehicles in the streets. For this reason, it is extremely important that we take the necessary precautions and that we are attentive to the road, in order to protect your life and the life of others. The lack of attention produced by several causes of distraction is one of the leading causes of vehicle accidents. Driving a vehicle may seem as a routine exercise, but we may not be aware of the dangers that our negligence may produce.
Each one of us may be distracted for different reasons, but it is possible to classify distractions while driving into the following categories.
Other Distractions of a Manual Nature:
Placing a CD in the player, looking for a radio station, lighting a cigarette, looking for money to pay a toll.
Emotional:
Your state of mind, being depressed or anxious, personal problems.
Our mind is mulling hundreds of thoughts every single minute (I have to pay the mortgage, the piping needs fixing, I should go see the doctor…) that don’t allow us to pay the necessary attention to the road and to whatever is around us. Remember, we are not alone on the road. We must be watchful of any maneuvers being done by other drivers and also of the presence of pedestrians in our roads.
From the moment you sit behind the Wheel, you must recognize that you will be expected to take all precautions, taking into consideration that at any moment, the unexpected may occur. Driving is not as simple as it seems. It requires concentration and leaves no space for distractions. Driving a vehicle irresponsibly increases the risk of causing harm to ourselves or to others. Do not allow your negligence to bite you back; be responsible today.
